                                            Evolution of Nintendo Consoles

Hello! Everybody with a new blog. This time i am going to talk about Nintendo Gaming consoles but not that in detail with the portable consoles by Nintendo. And Sorry for my late post.
So lets move on and starts with a little introduction.

Introduction:
The Japanese multinational consumer electronics company Nintendo has developed 7 home gaming consoles so far without including portable gaming consoles like 3DS etc.
This company is like one of the oldest console producer. In today's tech world Nintendo has a huge name. Its consoles are competing with Sony's  PS and Microsoft's XBOX. As of September 13, 2015 Nintendo has sold over 722.22 million hardware units worldwide.
Lets move on to its first console.

 Nintendo Entertainment System (NES):
Its takes us way back to the 1985, when Nintendo released its first home gaming console named Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was released on October 18, 1985 almost all around the world. It was also the first gaming console released by Nintendo outside of the Japan. It was a 8-bit console, known as "Family Computer" or "Famicom" in Japan. Nintendo sold over 61.91 million units worldwide. NES helped a lot in re vitalizing gaming industry after the "Video Game shock of 1983" or Atari Shock. Nintendo's iconic franchise like "The Legend of Zelda" & "Metroid" started on NES.

Nintendo continued to repair the NES or Famicom consoles in Japan until October 31, 2007.

 Super Nintendo Entertainment System:

On November 21, 1990 Nintendo released its second home video gaming console Super Nintendo Entertainment System officially abbreviated as Super NES or SNES,  the successor of Nintendo Entertainment System or NES. It is a 16-bit gaming console released worldwide. Its known in Japan as "Super Famicom" and in South Korea as "Super Combos". It faced a bit struggle in Asian region cause of PAL (Phase Alternating Line) but did very well compared to North American region where its competition was SEGA's Mega drive. Super NES was the best selling gaming console of 16-bit era, selling 49.10 million units. Some of the popular gaming franchises started in SNES were Star Fox, Mega Man X and Earthbound.

Nintendo 64:
The Nintendo 64 often referred as N64 code named as Project Reality was third home gaming console released by Nintendo in international market on June 23, 1996. The digit 64 was given with its name because this console has the 64 bit architecture CPU. It was marketed with the slogan "Get N or Get OUT". The console was released in variety of colors and designs. This console belonged to the fifth generation of gaming consoles so it primarily competed with Play Station and SEGA Saturn in market.
Total of 32.93 units were shipped all over the world. It was released with three launch games Super Mario 64, Pilot wings 64 and Saikyo Habu Shogi.
IGN named it 9th ever greatest gaming console ever. Its sale was discontinued in November 2009 worldwide.

It was Nintendo's first gaming console to use Optical disks instead of Game Cartridges. Its CPU was designed by IBM and GPU by ArtX later acquired by ATI. The console supports online gaming. The console was highly praised for its Controllers, Extensive software library and High Quality games but was criticized for some lack of functions. I personally liked the GameCube very much. Its best selling game was Super Smash Bros Melee. Nintendo sold total of 21.74 million units of GameCube worldwide. Its sales were discontinued in 2007.

Wii:
The Wii was released by Nintendo on November 19, 2006. Code named as "Revolution". It is a 7th Generation gaming console so it competed with Sony's Play Station 3

This console was revealed on E3 2005. Nintendo nailed it this time with Wii. It is the most compact and sleek console of its generation. It supported Wii optical disks. Its memory has a bandwidth of 2.7 Gb/s. Its CPU named Power PC Broadway was designed by IBM. It has a lot of launch titles including Call of Duty, Dragon Ball Z, Need for Speed Carbon, etc.

By April 2007 The Wall Street Journal had declared Nintendo "had become the company to beat in game business".  On October 20, 2013 Nintendo had confirmed that it had discontinued production of Wii.

 Wii U:
Wii U, successor to Wii is another home video game console released by Nintendo on November 18, 2012. And CPU was designed by IBM called "Espresso" having 3 cores clocked at 1.24 GHz.

Its best selling game is Mario Kart 8. As of September 30, 2016 total of 13.36 million units are sold and are being sold till date.

Nintendo Switch:
The Nintendo Switch known in development as NX, is an upcoming hybrid video gaming console like its home based and portable both at the same time.
The switch is a tablet like portable console which can be inserted into a docking station connected to a Television for use as a home console But Nintendo is marketing this console as home gaming console. Chip is being used is Custom Nvidia Tegra.  Its going to be released in March 2017 probably at E3. Its probably going to be first of its kind. I am eagerly waiting for this console to come out.
